I’m Nicole “Nima Nemo,”

“I was born in the Netherlands. Later in the 80’s my family and I moved to Mallorca Island in the east of Spain. It wasn’t until my son showed a lot of interest in diving that I began diving myself. I wanted to see with my eyes what he liked about it !”

“I love to dive in the Mediterranean Sea, where I dive most weeks. In the summertime the water reaches about 28 Degrees C (82 F) where we are able to dive the year around. The visibility is amazing and can reach 50 meters or more and you can find caves, arches, walls and cliffs. In addition Toposidonia fields and abundant marine fauna. We also find important wrecks such as the Andrea Ferrara which disappeared 11 years ago and turned up some years ago in the bay of Pollensa. Also the Shipwrecks in the bay of Palma which is the capital of Mallorca. In these areas, it is easy to find schools of barracuda, Bream, Grouper and Tuna striking nudibranchs.”

“I also love sharks and bigger pelagics ! I like to travel twice a year to warmer destinies like the Maldives, Thailand, Egypt and Mexico to get nice footage of their sea life. I started taking photos to show my friends and acquaintances the incredible life that we have submerged, that needs our attention. Since without a healthy sea, there is no possible life for us on earth. And since I added the hobby of underwater photography, I am involved in the conservation and protection of this medium.”

“I am convinced that the protection and conservation of the sea begins with education from a very young age at school.”

“When I immerse myself in the water, I calm down and feel peace and relaxation. I am not afraid. On the contrary I feel protected and like when I was a little girl and returned to my home, my parent’s house at the end of my day.”

“I would like to also share Daughtersofthedeep.org where they do an awesome job facilitating training and education for disadvantaged women to be able to work in the marine industries. Let’s see if all together we can raise awareness that there is only 1 planet earth and we have to take care of it.”
